Today I posted a quote on Instagram that sparked a lot of thought and conversation. I love when that happens because it is just another chance for us all to remember how much we have in common. We all have a past, most of us have things in our past that can be considered "dark moments". Maybe not horrible but just something that didn't quite go as we planned. I've found this to be an important thing to remember when interacting with others, especially if it's the first time. It's sort of a double dose of non judgment. First off don't judge yourself, take your guard down. Realize that you aren't the only imperfect one in the situation. So you certainly shouldn't be judging them either. So now, connect with compassion. This should allow both of you to be more honest and understanding. Beginning from a place of transparency and respect is the best way to go. That being said, it isn't always the easiest. To be that open, up front with a total stranger can be really difficult. It is a vulnerable place to be. Here's the best news, that's totally OK!! You are human, you should be feeling these different things. The key is to feel, process, and move forward. No dwelling or beating yourself up allowed. After all, we all have a past.
